Frequently Asked Questions
What is this tournament about?
While we are raising money for First Tee of the Triangle, the purpose of this tournament is to get people out and enjoying the game of golf while meeting new people. This is a social tournament first and a competition second.
Do I have to play in all 3 rounds to take part? Or any rounds for that matter?
No! While many folks will take part in all 3 rounds of golf, we know it’s not for everyone so we offer other options as well:
Tournament only entry - Just miss the practice round on Friday, but still a part of the competition for Saturday and Sunday.
Just the Fun Round - Come out and play Friday and enjoy yourself, then relax for the weekend while everyone else is at the course. You will still get entry to the party Saturday at Lonerider, as well as the post-round lunch on Sunday as we close out the weekend.
Social Members - Don’t play golf but still want to take part? This is the option for you! You will still receive a weekend gift, as well as entry to the party Saturday and lunch on Sunday for the close out. Feel free to explore Oak Island, Southport, Shallotte, or other parts of the surrounding area! Connect with other social members to explore together.
Can I build my own team instead of going into the draft?
Sorry, no, we like chaos and social gatherings too much. We do want everyone to have a good time, but love the parity and excitement that comes with the unique draft-style team selection. If you would like a say in who is on your team, you are welcome to be a captain or be at the draft party to plead your case before or during the selection.
Do I have to be present at the draft to be selected?
No, everyone will be selected for a team no matter whether you are present or not. Afterwards, we will provide draft results and captains will be provided team contacts via email to coordinate any way you wish between the draft and the tournament.
Do I have to submit a draft card?
YES! Everyone will need to submit their draft profile so that we can have some information about what type of golfer/teammate you will be. These will be put to use at the draft so that captains can pick who they want on their teams.
If you submitted a card in the past, you will still need to submit one because we are using a new online form this year, but it’s much shorter this time, we promise!
What if my plans change, will I get a refund?
Yes, if something happens and you are unable to make the tournament, you will need to contact a member of the Planning Committee and coordinate refund details with Justin.
Do I have to participate in gold ball or power kit add ons?
No, there is no requirement from anyone to participate in the additional fundraisers, however they do add some fun elements to the competition. There are some additional considerations below:
Gold Ball - It is best for everyone on your team to agree to this, as the ball must rotate per person per hole (member 1 plays the ball for all of hole 1, then member 2 for hole 2, etc.). If for any reason a member of your team does not want to participate in this event, then you will need to work that out amongst your teammates on how to handle that.
Power Kits - As an individual add on, there is no team requirement to buy in and can be done on a per-person basis. However, the advantages provided by each power kit can only be used by the person they are purchased for and not redistributed within your team.
Do you have more questions?
If you have additional questions that were not addressed here or otherwise on the site, please reach out to Justin Fox directly at 704-929-9460 or justinkfox@gmail.com, or to another member of the planning committee.
